Graduation Cord Requirements |
1. Advocate to help pharmacists to use their extensive clinical knowledge to care for patients.
2. Provide career services for employers and pharmacist job seekers to connect online. 3. Provide continuing education for current pharmacists. 4. Provide accreditation pharmacy residency programs. 5. Develop official professional policies, in the form of policy positions and guidance documents, in order to establish best practices and provide guidance to ensure patients receive optimal care. 6. Promote pharmacy as a vital component of a total health care system. |
Required Criteria
I. Maintained membership in both ASHP and SSHP for at least 2 years at the time of graduation II. Attend a minimum of 3 national, regional, or local conferences: -ASHP Summer Meeting -ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting -Other ASHP meetings (Policy Week, Student Advocacy Training and Legislative Day, Leadership Conference, etc.) -State/regional/local* Annual Meetings *SSHP general body meetings do not satisfy this requirement *local affiliate monthly meetings do not satisfy this requirement **(Please note that SSHPs can submit a request to students@ashp.org for the list of students that attended SM/MCM)** III. Attend at least 2 residency-focused programs: -CV Critique through SSHP, ASHP, or state affiliate -Midyear to Match: Residency Basics -Midyear to Match: Navigating Midyear -Other SSHP-based programming IV. Participate in one Practice Advancement Initiative (PAI)-related event: -ASHP PAI Video Competition -SSHP PAI programming VI. Choose 2 additional items from the choices below: -Encourage proper use of medicine in the general public/promote participation in service activities throughout the community -SSHP-sponsored community service events -State affiliate collaboration for community service -Provide information on career alternatives, specialized training, and credentials -Attend SSHP Programming regarding career options -Participate in ASHP Connect Mentor Program -Participate in the ASHP Clinical Skills Competition -Participate in an ASHP Continuing Education Webinar -Provide service to the profession through leadership roles -Serve as an SSHP Executive Board member for at least 1 full term -Serve as an SSHP Committee Chair for at least 1 full term -Hold a national position in ASHP (e.g. ASHP Sections, Pharmacy Student Forum Advisory Groups, Pharmacy Student Forum Advisory Group Ad Hoc Committee) -Advocate for the profession through interactions with other members of the healthcare industry and the public -Attend ASHP advocate training & legislative day -Attend a state legislative day -Participate in SSHP advocacy programming -Promote research in the pharmaceutical sciences and care -Present a research poster at a professional meeting |

ASHP President- Lauren Dietz
Pronouns: She/her/hers 1. What year in pharmacy school are you? PY3 2. Where did you do your pre-pharmacy work? University of Kentucky 3. How many years in undergrad? 3 4. Tell us about what your elected position does in KAPS. As SSHP president I act as a liaison between the members of KAPS and ASHP/KSHP to help provide students exposure to the variety opportunities available to pharmacists within the health system. I also work with these organizations to try to provide the best and most up to date residency information and preparation. 5. What’s your favorite thing about KAPS? My favorite thing about KAPS is the variety of ways to get involved. My favorite experiences have been volunteering with Faith Pharmacy and Mission Frankfort and I have enjoyed meeting and working with other students and pharmacists that I would not have met otherwise. |
ASHP President-Elect - Nicholas Sandusky
Pronouns: He/him/his 1. What year in pharmacy school are you? PY2 2. Where did you do your pre-pharmacy work? University of Kentucky 3. How many years in undergrad? 2 4. Tell us about what your elected position does in KAPS. I work with the current ASHP-SSHP President Lauren and our advisor Dr. Brooke Herndon on various things to meet the needs of our student population! I work with them on various events that we host at UK along with other SSHP chapters across the country. As president-elect, I get to follow along and learn more about what my specific branch of KAPS does so that I can make my year as president the most meaningful and beneficial as possible. 5. What got you into pharmacy and what are your pharmacy interests? My dad and brother were involved in a serious car accident where my brother sustained severe traumatic injuries. He spent several weeks in an intensive care unit following multiple surgeries and was prescribed many medications on discharge and received lots of medications while inpatient for the various injuries. I was able to see how pharmacists were a pivotal aspect to patient care and was a career where I could be fulfilled. 6. What’s your favorite thing about KAPS? KAPS is a unique organization where any student can find their place. There are tons of opportunities to get involved in something that interest you or help you explore various options if you are still unsure! Within this organization, the ability to network, serve our community, develop leadership skills, find a mentor, and grow both personal and professionally are all my favorite things about KAPS! 7. What are you planning for the upcoming school year? Brewery trivia nights, CV review events, networking opportunities, various tabling events, Clinical Skills Competition, Hospital Pharmacy Week events, Antibiotic Awareness Week events, residency panels, and more! |
